From among this vast body of writings, each lineage recognizes a select portion as its secondary scripture, called sm\u1e5biti. Aum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BH\u0100SHYA<br>While the Vedas and \u0100gamas are shared as part of every Hindu\u2019s primary scripture, \u015bruti, each sect and lineage defines its own unique set of sm\u1e5biti. The sacred literature, pu\u1e47ya \u015b\u0101stra, from which sm\u1e5biti is drawn consists of writings, both ancient and modern, in many languages. Especially central are the ancient Sanskritic texts, such as the Itih\u0101sas, Pur\u0101\u1e47as and Dharma \u015a\u0101stras, which are widely termed the classical sm\u1e5biti. In reality, while many revere these as sm\u1e5biti, others regard them only as sacred literature. Sm\u1e5biti means \u201cthat which is remembered\u201d and is known as \u201cthe tradition,\u201d for it derives from human insight and experience and preserves the course of culture. While \u015bruti comes from God and is eternal and universal, the ever-growing sm\u1e5biti canon is written by man. Hinduism\u2019s sacred literature is the touchstone of theater and dance, music, song and pageantry, yoga and s\u0101dhana, metaphysics and ethics, exquisite art and hallowed sciences.
