Skanda Shash\u1e6dh\u012b is a six-day festival honoring His conquest of light over darkness. Tai Pusam is a time of s\u0101dhana and public penance. Aum.<br><br>BH\u0100SHYA<br>On Vaik\u0101si Vi\u015b\u0101kham day, Lord K\u0101rttikeya\u2019s birthstar, Vi\u015b\u0101kh\u0101 nakshatra, in May-June, elaborate abhisheka is conducted in all His temples. It is a time of gift-giving to pa\u1e47\u1e0ditas and great souls, weddings, feedings for the poor, caring for trees, spiritual initiation, d\u012bksh\u0101, and conclaves of holy men. Skanda Shash\u1e6dh\u012b is celebrated on the six days after the new moon in October-November with festive processions and p\u016bj\u0101s invoking His protection and grace. It honors K\u0101rttikeya\u2019s receiving the vel, His lance of spiritual illumination, j\u00f1\u0101na \u015bakti, and culminates in a dramatic victory celebration of spiritual light over asuric darkness. Tai Pusam occurs on Pushya nakshatra in January-February. During this festival we fast and perform public penance, called kavadi, seeking K\u0101rttikeya\u2019s blessings to dispel our selfishness, pride and vanity. His special monthly days are K\u1e5bittik\u0101 nakshatra and Shash\u1e6dhi, the sixth tithi after the new moon.
