They summarize the essential practices that we observe and the soulful virtues and qualities we strive daily to perfect. Aum Nama\u1e25 \u015aiv\u0101ya.<br><br>BH\u0100SHYA<br>Good conduct is a combination of avoiding unethical behavior and performing virtuous, spiritualizing acts. The accumulated wisdom of thousands of years of Hindu culture has evolved ten niyamas, or religious observances. These precepts defining the ideals of kriy\u0101 are: 1) hr\u012b, \u201cremorse,\u201d be modest and show shame for misdeeds; 2) santosha, \u201ccontentment,\u201d seek joy and serenity in life; 3) d\u0101na, \u201cgiving,\u201d tithe and give creatively without thought of reward; 4) \u0101stikya, \u201cfaith,\u201d believe firmly in God, Gods, guru and the path to enlightenment; 5) \u012a\u015bvarap\u016bjana, \u201cworship,\u201d cultivate devotion through daily p\u016bj\u0101 and meditation; 6) siddh\u0101nta \u015brava\u1e47a, \u201cscriptural listening,\u201d study the teachings and listen to the wise of one\u2019s lineage; 7) mati, \u201ccognition,\u201d develop a spiritual will and intellect with a guru\u2019s guidance; 8) vrata, \u201csacred vows,\u201d fulfill religious vows, rules and observances faithfully; 9) japa, \u201crecitation,\u201d chant holy mantras daily; 10) tapas, \u201causterity,\u201d perform s\u0101dhana, penance, tapas and sacrifice.
