Our soul is neither male nor female. It is that which never dies, even when its four outer sheaths\u2014phys\u00ad\u00adical, pr\u0101\u1e47ic, instinctive and mental\u2014change form and perish as they na\u00adtur\u00adal\u00adly do. The physical body is the an\u00adnamaya ko\u015ba. The pr\u0101\u1e47ic sheath of vitality is the pr\u0101\u00ad\u1e47a\u00admaya ko\u015ba. The instinctive-intellectual sheath is the mano\u00admaya ko\u015ba. The mental, or cognitive, sheath is the vi\u00adj\u00f1\u0101na\u00admaya ko\u015ba. The in\u00admost soul body is the blissful, ever-giving-wisdom \u0101nanda\u00admaya ko\u015ba. Par\u0101\u00ad\u015bakti is the soul\u2019s superconscious mind\u2014God \u015aiva\u2019s mind. Para\u00ad\u015biva is the soul\u2019s in\u00admost core. We are not the physical body, mind or emo\u00adtions. We are the im\u00admortal soul, \u0101tman. The sum of our true ex\u00adistence is \u0101n\u00adan\u00adda\u00admaya ko\u015ba and its essence, Par\u0101\u015bak\u00adti and Para\u015biva. The Vedas expostulate, \u201cThe soul is born and unfolds in a body, with dreams and desires and the food of life. And then it is reborn in new bodies, in accordance with its former works.
